"Vugar Gashimov Memorial-2021": The first round of rapid competitions has been completed.

The 7th super tournament dedicated to the memory of Azerbaijani grandmaster Vugar Gashimov started in Baku on December 18.
Vugar Gashimov's father Gasim Gashimov and European Chess Union President Zurab Azmayparashvili made their first moves in the super tournament.
In the first match of the first round of Rapid competition, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov from Azerbaijan defeated David Navar from the Czech Republic. Rauf Mammadov lost to Indian Viswanathan Ananda, and Vugar Asadli lost to Fabiano Caruane. Richard Rapport from Hungary defeated Russian Sergei Karjakin.
In the second match, playing white, Mamedyarov drew with Navara. Dispite Rauf Mammadov won against Viswanathan Ananda, Vugar Asadli shared the score with Fabiano Caruana. Rapport defeated Karjakin again.
As the number of victories was the same, an "armageddon" was held between Rauf Mammadov and Viswanathan Anand and the Azerbaijani representative won.
Thus, Richard Rapport, Fabiano Caruana and Shakhriyar Mammadyarov scored 3 points, Rauf Mammadov 2 points and Viswanathan Anand 1 point.
One round of rapid competitions consists of two games.

Rapid competitions in the tournament will consist of 7 rounds and will last until December 21. Blitz competitions will be held on December 22-23.
The rapid competition will be held with a time control of 15 minutes + 10 seconds, and the blitz with a time control of 5 minutes + 3 seconds.
