“Shamkir Chess 2019” Super-tournament ended up with a magnificent closing ceremony

“Shamkir Chess 2019” Super-tournament in the Memory of Vugar Hashimov, the prominent Azerbaijani grandmaster, ended up. Holding in the Heydar Aliyev Center, in the closing ceremony, first of all the executive chief of the Shamkir Region, Alimpasha Mammadov expressed his gratitude to the participants of the tournament. Stating that Shamkir Tournament is in the centerpiece of the World Media, A. Mammadov noted that the Vugar Hashimov Memorial has its outstanding place in the chess map.

Giving speech after him, the deputy minister of Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ismayil Ismayilov talked about the care towards sport, particularly to chess in Azerbaijan. The deputy minister emphasized the crucial role of the Vugar Hashimov Memorial in the promotion of chess in the country, and he congratulated the winner as well. Then, brother of Vugar Hashimov and the director of the “Microsoft” Azerbaijani Representative, Sarkhan Hashimov expressed his gratefulness to the President of the Azerbaijan Republic.  S.Hashimov evaluated the organization of the tournament since 2014 as a special care of the President to the chess in the country.

The vice-president of FIDE and Azerbaijani Chess Federation, the director of organization committee of “Shamkir Chess 2019” tournament, Mahir Mammadov noted in his speech that the competition was rich of many interesting games. Stating that the winning and lost consisted of 33 percent of the tournament, Mahir Mammadov said that the organization committee tried to hold the tournament decent to the name of Vugar Hashimov.

Being traditional, the owner of the grant constituted by the Vugar Hashimov Academy on “Fair Play” was declared. Having participated in all press conferences, not ignored anybody on giving autograph or taking photo, treated the opponents with high respect, the World Champion Magnus Carlsen has been awarded with that grant. For the another award, the chief referee of the tournament, the vice-president of Azerbaijan Chess Federation, Faig Hasanov  was nominated for his profound help to the holding of the Vugar Hashimov Memorial. Both awards were given to the nominees by Sarkhan Hashimov, brother of Vugar Hashimov.

In the end, the chief referee of the tournament, Faig Hasanov revealed the results. According to the final results, Magnus Carlsen 7, Ding Liren and Sergey Kariakin 5, Alexander Grischuk, Vishwanatan Anand and Teimour radjabov 4.5, David Navara, Veselin Topalov 4, Shahriyar Mammadyarov 3.5, and finally Anish Giri  scored 3 points. 

The director of the organization committee of “Shamkir Chess 2019”, Mahir Mammadov presented the Cup to the winner of the tournament, Magnus Carlsen. It should be noted that, the Norwegian World Champion has been the winner of this tournament in 2014, 2015, and 2018 before; and Shahriyar Mammadyarov was the champion of 2016 and 2017 years. 

“Chaychi” (Tea maker) dance performed in the ceremony contributed to high interest of people. In the end of the dance, the dancer presented the tea in the traditional pear-shaped glass to the winner of the World Cup and the Russian representative, Sergey Kariakin in order to taste the Azerbaijani tea.

The performance of “Azerbaijan” song by Samir Jafarov, the People`s Artist of the Azerbaijan Republic and the laureate of several international competitions, in three languages was accompanied with loud applauses. 
 

“Shamkir Chess 2019” in the memory of Vugar Hashimov was been declared closed.
