The sixth Memorial of Vugar Hashimov has been started in Shamkir

“Shamkir Chess 2019” Super-tournament devoted to the memorial of chess player, late grandmaster Vugar Hasjimov has been started. First and furthermost, the memorial of Azerbaijani genocide victims of 31 March commemorated with one-minute silence.

In the first round of the tournament organized for the sixth time, one of the Azerbaijani representatives, Teimour Radjabov with white figures meets Magnus Carlsen, the Norwegian reigning World Champion. However, Shahriyar Mammadyarov played with black figures meets Alexander Grishuk, the Russian representative. In other parts, Anish Giri (The Netherlands) meets Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria), Sergey Kariakin (Russia) meets Ding Liren (China), Wishvanatan Anand (India) meets David Navara, the Czech representative.

Noting that, being in the high places on FIDE rating, the ten strong grandmasters compete once again in the 22 category Memorial of Vugar Hashimov, which is supported by SOCAR, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Azerbaijan Chess Federation, and partnered by “Synergy Group”.

The rating favorite of the Super-tournament is Magnus Carlsen, the Norwegian reigning World Champion. He holds the first place with 2845 points on the FIDE rating table.

Consisted of nine rounds which is based on the Swiss chess system, “Shamkir Chess 2019” Super-tournament will end up on April 9th

We should note that the winner of the tournament has been the World Champion, Magnus Carlsen (Norway) in 2014, 2015 and 2018. The Azerbaijani grandmaster, Shahriyar Mammadyarov was in the 1st place in the last two years.
