The third round of the ShamkirChess 2018 Super Tournament in the memory of Vugar Hashimov is going to finish. The Press Service reports that, in today`s party, the Azerbaijani grand master Shahriyar Mammadyarov played draw with the Russian representative Sergey Kariakin. After the party, Kariakin said that it was impossible to get the advantage in the game: “After the opening, we could not get precedence. We know each other well with Shahriyar. Now, I can estimate his next move. Therefore, there were not any mistakes. The surprise was not expected. Actually, I really wanted to win. Simply, Shahriyar did not allow this”.

Sergey Kariakin stated that, in the competence over the World Chess Crown against Magnus Carlsen, Shahriyar was in his team, and helped him: “Shahriyar is my friend, as well. I have always felt his support in games of the World Championship. We have played chess and discussed the moves. We have not worked on debuts. Therefore, I think that, we do not know well each other as a chess player.

The Azerbaijani grand master Shahriyar Mammadyarov said that the result is according to the party in his game against Sergey Kariakin: “This time draws account for a lot. However, in the chess, these kinds of cases are not by chance. There is no need to surprise. I prepared seriously to the game against Kariakin. Simply, there was not any chance to get precedence. I have thought about several versions, I did not see any escaping out of the situation. We know each other well. Yet he does not know all my secret. We have not worked on debuts with Sergey. We have always played only chess, discussed how to get out of the difficult positions. We have never said our debuts to each other”.

Mammadyarov interpreted the plethora of draws in the ShamkirChess 2018 Super Tournament like that: “I participated at the tournament in Bulgaria in 2007. In that game, tremendous number of draws were recorded. Imagine that, in the last round, the player holding last place were with only a half point behind of the leading player. I mean, if the leader loses the game, the outsider will be the champion of the tournament by winning. In my opinion, the parties in Shamkir are very interesting. Simply they are not fruitful. However, I believe that, in the upcoming games there will be loss and victories.
