The first round of the Memorial of Vugar Hashimov organized in Shamkir is going to the end. The Azerbaijani grand master Rauf Mammadov with black pieces was draw in the first round against Czech grand master, David Navara. Rauf Mammadov talked about the game in his impression, after the match: “Last year had many successful games. I hit 2700 scores. Therefore, I would like to play very well in Shamkir. David Navara is quite an interesting competitor. He has very entertaining and unpredictable moves. In some cases, I believe that there is some similarity in our style. The draw is the result according to the game. Yet, I had several opportunities to win. Simply, I have not prepared for the game against Navara. Afterwards of the 12th move, I lost myself. I did not know what move I should come. David played very wisely, and he equalized the game within a split of time.

Evaluating highly the organizers of ShamkirChess 2018 Super Tournament, the Azerbaijani grand master noted the importance of holding the contest in the memory of Vugar Hashimov: “I appreciate all the organizing companies and people that they are organizing such a great tournament in the name of Vugar. We always remember him. When I hear Hashimov`s name, I always remember the European Championship 2009. Our National Team was the champion for the first time in Serbia. I remember his move and victory against Daniel Stelvagen in the final decisive game. We were very happy.”
