The president of the Georgia Chess Federation Giorgi Giorgadze , has come to Shamkir to watch the ShamkirChess 2017 tournament dedicated to memory of Vugar Gashimov .. Giving an interview to the official website of the tournament he spoke about competition, organized by Synergy Group.
-It was very nice to see you at Vugar Hashimov Memorial. We would like you to speak about Shamkirchess 2017 tournament.
-First of all, i would like to congratulate the organizers. truly, it is a magnificent tournament. In opening ceremony they said that Shamkir is the Linares of Azerbaijan. I completely agree with this opinion. The border with Georgia is close so I have come with car. After the border, I asked the traffic police the way to the hotel. They were Very glad when they heard that I came here because of chess. They accompanied me to the hotel and I was very pleased. All of Shamkir were mobilized on chess . You know, i have repeatedly visited the Linares super tournament.. From the seller in the shop to the police everybody breathes with chess there. I can feel the same mood in Shamkir. Synergy Group ,Organiser of the Shamkir chess tournament supports the development of the country. It is worthy competition of Vugar’s name.
- 10 chess players are taking part in the international tournament. Which intelligent man will you support?
- I wish the victory of Shahriyar. I like his style of play. He isn’t afraid of fight . He fights openly, and if it is necessary he takes risk. Mammadyarov is one of the top players in the world. In Shamkir ,Shahriyar is my favorite.
- The World chess Cup will be held in Tbilisi in autumn. How is the preparation for the prestigious competition going?
- The organizing Committee regularly holds meetings. The necessary works will be done for the high level of organization of the world Cup. In this regard, Azerbaijan Chess Federation actively helps us. World Cup and 42 World Chess Olympiad Held in Baku became an example for everyone. We try to make guests of Georgia satisfied .
In 2018, the Chess Olympiad will be held in Batumi. This area is a favorite place of tourists. during the tournament will there be the problems about the hotel?
The issue with Batumi being the tourist attraction has been. The Olympiad will begin in late september. The tourist season is coming to an end in that period. I think there will not be problems with accommodation.
-Will there be any innovations in Chess Olympiad in Georgia?
-Now all our thoughts are directed to the World Cup. Only after that we can talk about the Olympiad. Baku Chess Olympiad was the best Olympiad until now. It is not easy to host the competition after Baku. Because Azerbaijan showed the highest level. In this sense a difficult and responsible work is waiting for us.
-Shamkir tournament is dedicated to the memory of famous Azerbaijani chess player Vugar Gashimov. Did you know him personally?
I had a personal acquaintance with Vugar. We met with him several times in the tournaments. As players, we participated in the same competition. We played in Linares. I still remember his historical moving. I watched the continental championship live. In 2009 for the first time Azerbaijani national team became the Europe champion in Serbia. In The last meeting, your team won after his decisive move . He was a wonderful person and a strong chess player. Unfortunately, we lost him. This is a loss for the chess world.
